Engine machining has come so far in the last few years, that many shops are struggling to keep up with the growing technology. At P.A.T. we have the capability to completely digitize and blueprint engine blocks. With the 4th axis technology of this machine, the block is held by the center line of the crankshaft and camshaft, and all measurements are taken directly in relation to that line. When surfacing, each cut is taken at a precise 45 degree angle, with an outstanding quality finish cut. The RA value of the surface finish is ideal for automotive gasket sealing. All boring is done within a 0.0001" tolerance to the desired size, and is guaranteed to be at the exact degree of angle relative to the center line of the block.
Absolutely state of the art technology uses diamond stones to accurately size and straighten each cylinder wall with tolerances as exact as 0.0001". The perfectly calculated ball-and-screw setup allows us to us to program the exact crosshatch angle, as well as the appropriate depth of the finish specific to each piston ring manufacturer for optimal oil retention. These steps are taken to drastically extend engine life, reliability, and performance.
